Individual holding up the Resense Coloring to Connect: Classic Car Edition workbook. It also says that there are 20 classic cars included in the workbook.

We recently finished collaborating with Dawn Wiggins in creating our new “Coloring to Connect : Classic Car Edition” workbook activity! It is a truly wonderful activity to do with your loved one or friend. The classic car designs are excellent ways to engage with your loved ones and initiate a conversation! Learn about what cars they had in the past, what car they drove to prom, etc.

Dawn has said it best,

“Ignite the power of shared memories and create a bond that transcends time. Engage your loved one with dementia in meaningful activities that stir recollections and invite joy. By connecting through creativity, you can help bring to light the rich tapestry of their life story, fostering a deeper understanding and a stronger relationship. It's more than just reminiscing; it's a journey of love, respect, and shared discovery. Embrace this unique opportunity to celebrate their life, their journey, and the moments that matter most.”

You can get yourself a copy of this new activity workbook in our Resense Shop! We added a link and promo code at the end of this article!

In lieu of launching this new product, we thought we would also like to share the benefits coloring can have on our lives! Enjoy!

Coloring is one of those activities that are not defined by age. Anyone can enjoy the process of bringing a picture to life, or the relaxing satisfaction of finishing a complicated mandala. While many people associate coloring with children, it has gained popularity among adults in recent years… and for good reason! The simple act of picking up a colored pencil or marker and filling in a picture can have profound positive effects on the lives of older adults. Let's explore four of the benefits that coloring offers to the elderly.

1.) Coloring promotes relaxation and stress relief:

Coloring consists of repetitive and seemingly rhythmic motions that help engage the brain in a focused and more meditative way. It allows individuals to let go of their worries and focus on the present moment.

2.) Fosters creativity and self-expression and creativity:

Coloring is a great way for older adults to express themselves and be creative, no matter how good they are at art. They can pick colors that match how they feel or what they like, which makes them feel in charge and special. Coloring lets them make something beautiful and special, which makes them feel proud and good about themselves.

3.) Improves Brain Health:

Engaging in coloring activities stimulates various areas of the brain, including those responsible for memory, attention, and problem-solving. It promotes hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, which can help maintain and improve dexterity in the elderly. Coloring also stimulates the brain's creative thinking processes, keeping the mind active and enhancing cognitive function.

4.) It is therapeutic!

Coloring has therapeutic qualities that go beyond its artistic appeal. It has been used as a form of art therapy to support emotional well-being and improve mental health. For individuals living with dementia or Alzheimer's, coloring can serve as a valuable tool for memory recall, stimulating the brain and triggering positive memories.

So, we encourage anyone to start coloring! Incorporating coloring into the lives of the elderly can bring an array of benefits. Whether done individually or as part of a group, coloring provides a creative outlet, promotes relaxation, enhances cognitive abilities, and brings joy to their everyday lives. So, if you have an loved one living with dementia, consider introducing them to the world of coloring and witness the positive impact it can have on their overall well-being. Let's add colors to their lives and celebrate the art that they create!
